There were a range of reasons why households needed help to prevent their homelessness. The main reasons are summarised in this chart.

Support Needs

Out of the 438 homelessness prevention interventions carried out during October-December 2006 support needs were recorded for 163 households. Where the support needs of households were recorded the main support need, as perceived by the Local Authority officer, was general life skills (31), followed by mental health (30), followed by domestic abuse (17). Further information can be seen on this graph.

Age

The age of the client was not recorded for 155 of the households whose homelessness was prevented during this quarter. The following graph shows the age of the principle household members. For 167 of the cases where homelessness was prevented the age of the household was not recorded. Of the LA's that recorded this information it can be seen that the most homelessness preventions were carried out for the age groups 31-40 followed by 18-21.

Children

205 of the households whose homelessness was prevented had children. The following graph shows the number of households that had one or more children. 233 households had no children.

Gender

The following graph shows the male/female split of the all the preventions carried out in Devon during October and December 2006. It shows that there are significantly more single females accessing prevention services than single males or couples.
